Yoonho Kang
Vancouver, BCWarren has lived in the Lower Mainland in BC for most of his life. A few years ago he did two community service projects using RisingYouth grants, and that has led to him joining the Sprout Ideas Fellowship program. He volunteers a lot in the Downtown Eastside, which has greatly informed his Sprout project idea.
Stepping Over the West End
Stepping Over the West End aims to share experiences of working with vulnerable populations in the Downtown Eastside with youth in schools. It is important to spread awareness about the systemic causes of issues in Vancouver such as houselessness and drug addiction.
About this Project

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
1.Speak to key stakeholders in the Downtown Eastside I have met through my volunteering experiences. 2.Combine the stories and experiences that I document with research on the issue to create a newsletter/report. 3.Share stories with youth in schools, along with resources to help them start volunteering in the DTES.
Project Impact
To make learning about houselessness in Vancouver more accessible and leave a lasting impression on youth in my community.
Project Mission
To create meaningful connections with people in the houseless community, and to share resources for youth to help them start their volunteering pursuits.
