Yi-Fan Ada Wang

Etobicoke, ON

Ada Wang is a first-year student at the University of Toronto’s Rotman Commerce program and an aspiring lawyer. Like many, Ada grew up hearing about “stranger danger.” Yet, as she inadvertently came across a family-tracing reality show, she realized that the existing misperceptions of human trafficking are not only deceptive but also extremely dangerous. Eager to make a change, she founded DAWN Against Trafficking (prev. “Future Unchained Toronto”), hosting workshops with 40+ volunteers for 200+ youth across Toronto and reaching 70,000 social media users online. Now, entering university, Ada is ready to take her initiatives to the next step with her and expand the work of Future Unchained “Toronto” into a “Domestic and Worldwide Network” Against Trafficking.

DAWN Against Trafficking – Eradicating Human Trafficking Through Empowerment and Education.

Founded in 2021, DAWN Against Trafficking (formerly Future Unchained Toronto) is the largest Torotonian youth-led non-profit dedicated to combating human trafficking. At DAWN, we believe that empathy and education are the key to empowering survivors and eliminating trafficking. Hence, through our initiatives, we wish to act as a bridging platform that connects 1) the public to the knowledge that protects them from trafficking, and 2) the survivors to the resources that support them to regain autonomy in their lives.

About this Project

Communities Served

My project will involve and/or impact the following communities:

    United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.

      How the project works

Through this project with the Sprouts Ideas Fellowship, we aim to educate the public, especially the youth population, about human trafficking by hosting regular workshops with guest speaker anecdotes, survivor testimonies, and expert panels that cover the prevention, identification, and the different forms of trafficking.

      Project Impact

DAWN Against Trafficking strives to build a tight-knit anti-trafficking community that is equipped with knowledge. We hope to create a future where the topic will no longer be a taboo to be spoken about. The spotlight would be placed onto the survivors, and through that, the survivors would be able to live to their fullest potential.

      Project Mission

DAWN’s mission for this specific project is to further act as a bridging platform that serves to bring knowledge to the general public (so they can equip themselves and protect their loved ones) by hosting workshops and educational sessions with guest speaker anecdotes.

      Project Team

DAWN Against Trafficking is led by a team of 5 high school and university students.
