Yeganeh Rasouli
Windsor, ONYeganeh is an undergraduate student at the University of Windsor studying psychology with a minor in biological sciences. She is the project lead for the Health Empowerment Initiative, which aims to empower impoverished, high-risk individuals through no-cost health education workshops. Committed to making a positive impact in her community, Yeganeh works to ensure that everyone has access to the knowledge and support needed for improved health outcomes, regardless of their socioeconomic background.
The Health Empowerment Initiative
The Health Empowerment Initiative began by distributing care packages containing PPE and essential items to the clients of the Downtown Mission in Windsor, Ontario, during the COVID-19 pandemic. While delivering these packages, it became evident that the clients, facing homelessness and financial hardship, needed continued health support even after the immediate crisis of the pandemic had passed. This initiative aims to provide ongoing support by offering no-cost health education workshops, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their health and well-being.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
When it comes to community impact projects, the UN has created 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are the Sustainable Development Goals associated with my project.
How the project works
The Health Empowerment Initiative is partnering with a local shelter to offer a full-day health education workshop to its clients. The workshop will cover various topics such as properly caring for wounds, mental health coping strategies, and comprehensive women’s reproductive health education. There will be guest speakers, hands-on activities to engage participants, and a Q&A session with professionals.
Project Impact
We hope that the approximately 25 participants will gain valuable health knowledge and share it with their family, friends, and others in their community. By passing on this information, they will create a ripple effect, extending the benefits and improving the health and support of countless others throughout their community.
